The TVET Sector Support Program (TVET SSP) under its Reintegration of Returnees in Pakistan component on Friday provided returning migrants and locals with fashion design toolkits who were trained in an entrepreneurship workshop
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 9, 2022): The TVET Sector Support Program (TVET SSP) under its Reintegration of Returnees in Pakistan component on Friday provided fashion design to returning migrants and locals who have received training – Toolkits available in a workshop on entrepreneurship.
A toolkit handover ceremony was organized by TVET in Lahore as part of its SSP initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), according to a press release.
On that occasion, Deputy Head of TVET Sector Support Program Raja Saad Khan also commented on the beneficiaries. He shared that the TVET Sector Support Program is funded by the European Union, Germany and Norway and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).
It also worked closely with provincial technical education and training agencies (TEVTAs) and several public and private sector not-for-profit organizations.
“German development cooperation regards qualifications on Pakistan’s informal labor market as crucial for the country’s economic growth and the financial independence of the individual. The economic stability of a country’s workers, particularly those in the informal sector, is directly proportional to a stable economy,” he added.
He said GIZ Pakistan aims to support small businesses and self-employment through the provision of in-kind contributions.
“Our approach is beneficiary-centred and the career and entrepreneurship advisory services and employment support measures encourage and motivate Pakistani beneficiaries to become self-sustaining in the long term,” he added.
Before the handover of the toolkits, a workshop on careers and business advice was held to train the beneficiaries. Beneficiaries from Punjab and KP who attended the workshop can now become entrepreneurs and set up their own start-up upon their return home.
Zulaikha Khan, a returnee from Saudi Arabia, said while picking up his fashion design tool kit at the event: “When I came back to Pakistan, I had a lot of problems. I could not find any support or opportunity that would support us – the returning migrants. This is a revolutionary step and the toolkits we are receiving today will enable us to run our own businesses and become financially stable.” TVET SSP’s Reintegration of Returnees in Pakistan component aims to improve the socio-economic Development of Pakistanis Facilitate returnees and locals by providing them with quick and effective start-up opportunities, especially in Punjab and KP as these regions are most affected by return migration.
The component will support 15,000 people, including 6,500 returnees from Germany and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, through various support measures including career and entrepreneurship advisory services, competency-based training and assessment (CBT&A), recognition of prior knowledge and employment promotion.
