PESHAWAR, May 7, 2014: Experts here at a one-day consultative session finalized a roadmap for reforming the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) aiming at making the training delivery according to the market needs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The one-day workshop was organized by newly established Technical Education and Vocational Training Agency (TEVTA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with TVET Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany and being implemented by the GIZ in close collaboration with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).
In the workshop, recommendations on nine working groups constituted on different thematic areas of the TVET system were presented, where apart from a large number of experts, chairman TEVTA-KP NaumanWazir, Executive Director NAVTTC Khalid Hanif and Susanne Wallstein from TVET Reform Support Programme were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Wazir underlined the importance of TVET sector for KP, where a large number of youth is unemployed. He said the training delivery in KP is not meeting the demand of the market and that is why the TVET sector doesn’t have attraction. He expressed the resolve that the incumbent provincial government is committed to revamp the existing TVET system and that is why the recommendations from the consultative workshop will be implemented in letter and spirit.
Executive Director NAVTTC Khalid Hanif appreciated the efforts of KP government for promotion of the TVET sector and introducing reform. He said NAVTTC is an apex body at the national level and will support the KP TEVTA in all its endvoures to make the training delivery in line with the market needs. He informed the audience that for the first time in history of Pakistan a National Vocational Qualification Framework (NVQF) has been formulated, which will be implemented across Pakistan. This, he said, will improve the quality of training as well as the image of the TVET sector by giving better employability to the future TVET graduates. He also mentioned that NAVTTC has already developed over 100 curricula in close collaboration with industry.
In the workshop, all the groups one by one presented their recommendations, which were tweaked out further. The recommendations will be presented to the chief minister this week for final approval.
