Pakistan TVET REFORM Support Programme Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform support Programme
KARACHI, Feb 20, 2014: Experts on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) have urged the industry to invest in skilled workforce development to increase competitiveness and profitability.
They gave this call while discussing the role of employers in the TVET system, a dialogue organized by the Germany Pakistan Training Initiative (GPATI) here the other day. Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Julie Reviere, Programme Director TVET Reform Support Programme and international and national experts and industrialists from Karachi spoke on the occasion. The session featured representatives of the 20 companies in Karachi that have signed up for the GPATI program in collaboration with AMANTECH and iACT which is being supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through TVET Reform Support Programme.
In line with German concept of Dual Training, GPATI is a new model of cooperative training in Pakistan and it aims at cooperation between the training provider and the industry for delivery of the training. The cooperative training institutions are AMANTECH under AMAN foundation and iACT.The courses developed under the programme involve candidates undergoing on the job training alongside theoretical education with the assistance of their employers; allowing for an enhanced learning experience for the trainee, and a better trained work force in return.
The speakers stressed upon the need for private employers to step up and assume responsibility for the improved training and education of their workforce. They also highlighted the examples of how the GPATI programme, which is demand-driven, has been replicated on comparatively large scale.
The session was concluded with the award of certificates by the Consul General Dr. Klinner and Dr. Reviere to the first batch of trainees that have come through the GPATI programme, after having received training as Retail Assistants in collaboration with METRO Superstores, at the Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents (IACT) in Karachi.
