Confidence comes from discipline and training and it proves to be true for Kiran Zubair, one of Pakistan’s recently internationally certified experts in vocational counselling and placement.
“The role of vocational counsellor is to facilitate the aspiring youngsters and this is something which brought tremendous change in my way of dealing when I got the required training and subsequently the international certification,” says a confident Ms. Zubair. She is one of the 31 experts from across Pakistan, whohas recently been awarded international certification for vocational counselling and job placement services.
With 31 participants, who passed the international certification process of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) the number of internationally certified experts, offering vocational counselling and job placement services has reached to 49.The examination for the international certification was supported by the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Royal Norwegian Embassy. This Programme, which supports the Government of Pakistan in reforming the TVET system, has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ) and is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fürInternationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Ms Zubair, who works in Idara-e-Taleem-o-Agahi-a Pakistani non-profit, termed the training and examination process as wonderful experience adding that this certificate will enable her to adopt the role of facilitator for aspiring youngsters in a more professional way.
The preparatory course, she thinks, has improved her confidence because personality was also being judged throughout the process. She remarked that she would continue to extend the training to upcoming youth so it doesn’t stop with only certified VC & JP officers.
International recognition through certification will be a value addition for the trained officers,as well as respective provincial and federal authorities and private sector for identifying right and most suitable candidates for jobs.
These initiatives will not only support the government but will also play a significant role in the lives of the jobless young population through early vocational and career counselling in order to select the best possible options for themselves.
Engr. Muhammad Pervez Khan is another certified expert. He works at Government Technical Training Insitute Ekka Ghund, Mohmand Agency(FATA). Sharing the same views, Mr. Khan says the training as well as examination have helped him build the confidence to impart quality guidance to youth.
The selected staffers have been trained on how to provide client-oriented counselling and how to liaise with the local industry in order to meet the demands of the industry.
The objective of the intervention is to ensure a similar knowledge base, therefore comparable quality of service of people working in VC&JP services or employment related topics, such as Human Resource Management.
Munir Rajput, who is working with Punjab Vocational Training Council(PVTC), is another certified officer. Rajput shared that he learned several new things during the process of certification and is now able to provide systematic approach to students who according to him comes without proper guidance and direction.
He said that he has already conducted in house training as well on the concept along with facilitating a session with AJK TEVTA. “I am so happy to share that two of my trainees are now certified trainer,” he shared with joy.
The way forward for each VC&JP officer is to build trust between employers of the local labour market and the TVET institution, to place the pass outs of the coursesafter they are provided with the acquired skills and knowledge.
Furthermore, the employers as the main partners of the VC&JP officers get a transparent and clear picture of the professional background and the services provided by each certified officer.
Therefore, an international CCI certificate is a great step to support the trust building process between the TVET sector and the employers.
