Public, private sector to work hands in hands

Karachi, April 17, 2014: Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA), Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP), Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Workers Employers Bilateral Council of Pakistan (WEBCOP) on Thursday joined hands for producing skilled workforce to meet the industrial requirement in Sindh.

Heads of all the three private sector organizations signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with STEVTA at a ceremony, where a large number of industrialists and government officials were present.

The signing of MoUs was supported by the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Zakaria Usman, President – FPCCI, Mr. Khawaja Nouman, President – EFP, Mr. Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, Managing Director – Sindh TEVTA & Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Sindh and Mr. Ahsan Ullah Khan, Chairman – WEBCOP highlighted the importance and relevance of private sector’s involvement and participation in TVET and assured their support in achieving the same.

Mr. Syed Nazar Ali, Director Operations – Sindh TEVTA briefed on the importance of partnerships between the TEVTA and the industry and discussed initiatives already taken for involving industry in skills development. He also briefed about the skills for productivity and enterprise competitiveness and the role of skilled workforce in industrial development.

Ms. Susanne Magdalene Wallstein from TVET Reform Support Programme appreciated the efforts of the Sindh TEVTA, EFP, FPCCI and WEBCOP and opined that the MoU signing is an integral part of the TVET sector reforms and will help in improving the access, quality and relevance of the TVET delivery. She hoped that this event will lead to further enhancing and strengthening the private sector involvement in TVET sector development in Sindh.
