Pakistan TVET REFORM Support Programme Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform support Programme
PESHAWAR, April 21, 2014: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Technical Education and Vocational Training Agency (KP-TEVTA) in collaboration with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)Reform Support Programme organizedfive awareness sessions at as many institutes in Peshawar.
“These sessions were planned to create awareness among students and youth of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa about the importance of TVET and many opportunities it offered including training courses to impart employable skills, help in exploring career paths and ways for increasing income and improving the social status,” reads a press release issued by the KP TEVTA.
It says that a high drop-out ratio in TVET courses means a large number of students do not adopt TVET as a career path because they remain unaware of it. “They do not have the first hand knowledge of training offers, career paths, TVET institutes, trades, criteria for admission and how it is linked to the job market.”
The awareness sessions were attended by a large number of youth including students from the general stream of education and parents. The eventsfeatured lectures to bridge this information gap and screening of a video documentary to highlight benefits of technical and vocational trainings for youth and students. The main aspectsof TVET covered through these sessions include: importance of TVET in an individual’s employability and career; where, how and in which trades students could avail the TVET offers in Peshawar and how the TVET offers were linked to prospects of employability.
During the sessions, speakers highlighted the importance of TVET sector in the national economic development. They also shared how countries with better TVET sectors were ahead of those countries where TVET sectors were poorly managed.
Following institutes hosted TVET sensitization and awareness sessions; Government Technical and Vocational Centre, Gul Bahar, Government College of Management Sciences, Government Polytechnic Institute for Men, SardarGarhi, Government Polytechnic Institute for Women, and Government College of Technology.
